College - Good Grade Obsession

Faculties have been reviewing too many applications recently that reveal students are hooked on getting great grades which means they're continuously sacrificing the time to work out exactly what extra-curricular activities interest them. These students are becoming more and more robotic in a greatly increasing competitive setting. There have been several circumstances where the student with the 4.0 doesn't get into the faculty and student together with the reduced grade point average does.


Of course colleges are looking for those pupils who can do well academically, but they also want their pupils to come with a certain energy towards invention. They want their students to be able to contribute creatively and get some kind of recognition eventually. Basically, colleges need those students who can go beyond anticipation. They need the students that have a passion in life outside academics. They need students who will excel out the classroom; at sports, volunteer work, dancing, travel, and the list continues on and on. These pupils also need to have the ability to present this in a 4-8 page college application. Now, how do you do this? How does one go about preparing for this undertaking?

It is essential that a student do two things while also maintaining a fantastic grade point average. The pupils who remain committed to one activity for three years reveal a much stronger degree of dedication and motivation than the student who participates in twenty five tasks for a short period of time. On the other hand, the pupils who participate in a couple of activities for a few years reveal more possible than those who have only one.

When schools get software that show different extra-curricular activities with no link to one another, they wonder them. Some of those applications will have all different kinds of activities like"one month volunteering in a homeless shelter, three months in a vet clinic, 6 months in dance lessons" etc.. This may simply mean that the student participated in the actions for the sole purpose of filling up this page in the college application. Sometimes these assumptions are explained in the student's essay but there are occasions when they are not and this doesn't seem good for the applicant regardless of what his or her grades are really like.

Pupils should always keep in mind that colleges want those students who will think critically. They want the pupil who will pursue an idea, not the person who only follows the principles and meets criteria. Colleges want the pupil who can think outside the box.
